2016 MID-YEAR BUDGET REVIEW TABLED IN PARLIAMENT

The Ministry of Finance and Treasury has confirmed that the 2016 Mid-Year Budget Review (2016 MYBR) has been tabled in Parliament.

The announcement was made to clarify claims raised by the Opposition Group in the media on 23rd September 2016 that suggested the Minister of Finance and Treasury may have breached the PFM Act for not tabling the report.

The Ministry is committed to implement reforms under the PFM Act that increases transparency in Government businesses and encourages sharing of information on government finances.

The Ministry of Finance reiterates that the passage and effectiveness of the PFM Act 2013, in year 2014 was an important milestone. To be able to implement the Act, the Ministry of Finance continues to upgrade and integrate systems and processes, and recruit staff.

“It is important that data quality and integrity is ensured in this reporting and the Ministry is working very hard to ensure that reports that need to be published under the requirement of the Act is of high quality,” said Permanent Secretary Harry Kuma.

Mr Kuma reiterates that the 2016 MYBR has been tabled in Parliament and that the Ministry of Finance does not have any intention to withhold information from the public.

The public including the Opposition Group is strongly encouraged to access this report at the National Parliament Office, or visit the Budget Unit collect a copy.
