CAREERS MARKET A SUCCESS
Over five hundred students took part in a career
education program that involved an exhibition of businesses and organisations
that aim to help students develop their career goals.

The event “Careers Market” is jointly hosted by
Woodford International School and the Solomon Islands Chamber of Commerce &
Industry (SICCI).
The program was successfully launched on Wednesday
at the Woodford school ground with the attendance of students from 10 different
schools and a trade-show of businesses, SOEs (state-owned enterprises) and
government ministries.

keynote address with remarks from the SICCI CEO Dennis Meone and Woodford
Acting Head of School Rachel MacKinnon.

Mr. Meone said the Chamber is pleased to have
taken part in organising the Careers Market emphasising that this was driven by
the positive response from businesses members who were very keen to support the
initiative.
“As the peak body representing the private sector
we are focused on supporting businesses to thrive and create jobs, but at the
same time we need to inspire our students, our young generation, to reach their
full potential as they are our future workforce and entrepreneurs,” said the
CEO.
“Businesses will need engineers, mechanics,
plumbers, accountants, lawyers, builders and the list goes on.

“I hope by the end of [Careers Market], all
students are better informed about the career opportunities that are out there,
understand the challenges and realities of the labour market and have more
information to guide their own career paths.”
The Chamber would like to thank Woodford for the
successful collaboration in establishing the Careers Market and SICCI members
who came out as sponsors of the event; South Pacific Oil, Solomon Islands Ports
Authority, Pan Oceanic Bank, Adkonect, Coral Sea Resort and GTL Holdings.
