'EMOTION IN MOTION' TO THANK RAMSI IN SOLOMON ISLANDS

A special session of Parliament will be convened next Tuesday, June 27, to allow the tabling and deliberation of the End of Mission Report on the Regional Assistance Mission to Solomon Islands (RAMSI).

Prime Minister Hon Manasseh Sogavare will table the RAMSI End of Mission Report 2003-17, which covers the activities of the Australian-led mission during its almost 14 years of operation in Solomon Islands.

The Solomon Islands Government Special Secretary to RAMSI, John Wasi said the motion will provide an opportunity for the Solomon Islands Government to thank RAMSI and leaders of RAMSI Participating countries- Pacific Island Forum Member countries- for their invaluable service and support under the RAMSI partnership.

Mr Wasi said it is only fitting that the Solomon Islands Government formally thank RAMSI and the Government leaders of the Pacific Islands Forum member countries participating in RAMSI on the floor of Parliament because the mission was deployed to Solomon Islands by an Act of Parliament -The Facilitation of the International Assistance Act (No.1 of 2003).

He said the motion will also provide an opportunity for the Solomon Islands Government to thank the Governor General and all Parliamentarians and Solomon Islanders for their support to RAMSI, which resulted in the successful accomplishment of its mandate.

Mr Wasi stated that Members of Parliament will also be given the opportunity during the special Parliament session to thank RAMSI and the leaders of the Pacific Islands Forum countries who contributed to RAMSI.
