IOU RAMSI, THANK YOU TUMAS: SICCI

"We owe our gratitude to RAMSI and all the participating nations" said SICCI Chair, Jay Bartlett.  As RAMSI is finally concluding its work, the Solomon Islands Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SICCI), is joining the rest of the country in thanking RAMSI for their 14 years in Solomon Islands.

“Our economy was at its lowest 14 years ago. Today we have come a long way from those days. Businesses are flourishing once again. Foreign investors and donors have returned with their confidence restored and the Solomon Islands economy recovered.

“Perhaps the biggest challenge for us as a country is to take ownership and sustain what has been achieved from the RAMSI partnership.

“There are many lessons that we can learn from and build on for the challenges we face as a nation in the coming years.

“The Solomon Islands Chamber of Commerce and Industry on behalf of the private sector would like to thank RAMSI for the partnership in restoring peace and stability we enjoy today.”




The Solomon Islands Chamber of Commerce & Industry (SICCI) joined the government, schools, churches, other stakeholders and Solomon Islanders in a farewell parade on Monday morning as the country marked the final transition of the Regional Assistance Mission to Solomon Islands (RAMSI).

Businesses joined the morning march from the Honiara City Council westward to the National Arts Gallery as part of the week long RAMSI farewell celebrations.

SICCI and its members will host visiting leaders of the RAMSI alliance at a luncheon this Thursday at the Heritage Park Hotel as appreciation for the work RAMSI has done for the country.

The lunch occasion will consist of Pacific Island Forum leaders, their delegates and government representatives.

THE small island province of Temotu in the far eastern part of Solomon Islands is one of the nation’s most prone natural hazard areas. The tsunami in 2013 swamped through 20 villages With an estimated population of less than 25,000, Temotu often has its bouts of natural disasters. In 2015, tropical cyclone Pam left devastating effects on the tiny province where people were affected from damages to their fruit trees, food gardens and agricultural crops. People near the coast were evacuated. Then again in 2017, TC Donna in its wake and formation also impacted badly on the people of Temotu.
